The City of Clearwater, Florida
For one year (June 2013 to June 2014), the City of Clearwater (www.myclearwater.com) and the Southwest Florida Water Management District pilot-tested a project to recharge groundwater with purified, reclaimed water. The idea was to improve groundwater levels in the aquifer while minimizing the impacts of potential withdrawals from City wells. The pilot system used a multi-barrier treatment process that included ultrafiltration (UF), reverse osmosis (RO), and an advanced oxidation process (AOP), along with other techniques, to purify the water. The project will go full scale by 2017-18.
